Four reasons, not one
e-invoice penetration is the highest in the EU
Over 95% of Finnish B2B invoices are sent in structured electronic format. That means the data we need โ invoice amounts, line items, supplier references โ is already machine-readable when it arrives. In markets with lower adoption, we'd spend most of our time extracting data from PDFs. Here, we go straight to matching.
Finance teams expect digital-first workflows
Finnish CFOs and AP teams aren't afraid of software that reads their data. There's less 'we've always done it this way' resistance. When we say 'export your last 24 months of invoices and send them over,' they do it without a six-week IT procurement cycle.
Strong data privacy expectations work in our favour
Finnish companies expect their data to stay in the EU. No US transfers. Full GDPR compliance as a baseline, not an afterthought. That's exactly how we're built, and it made enterprise sales conversations shorter.
Finland educates the people we want to hire
Finland's schools are some of the best anywhere, and you feel it when you hire. The engineers are sharp, and they sweat the small stuff. A finance product is mostly small stuff, so a careful team counts for as much as a clever idea. We get to build with people who are genuinely good at this.
Where we're going next, and when
We started building SopiSafe in 2025. A quiet year. We wrote the product, tested it against real Finnish invoice data, and worked out what a good finding actually looks like before we sold anything.
This year we entered the market. Finland is home: the highest e-invoice adoption in the EU, finance teams who expect software to be good, and a market we understand from the inside. The right place to prove the model.
Sweden, Norway, and Denmark next. Similar e-invoice adoption, similar procurement culture, low language barrier. We carry the same playbook north instead of rebuilding it.
Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Bigger and more fragmented, and worth getting right. Which is why it comes after the Nordics, not before.
The defensible beachhead argument
We started in Finland because it's the best place in Europe to learn this problem well. Once we know it cold here, expansion gets cheaper: the same product and the same playbook, with new sales and local knowledge on top.
We're early. We don't have a decade of numbers to wave around, and we're not going to invent any. What we have is a clear strategy and a market that fits the product better than anywhere else.
